NEMRUD MOUNTAIN

Mt.Nimrud, which is one of highest peaks of the south_eat Taurus,is the site of the most interesting archaeological remains, not only of Anatolia, but of the whole world. Even in the 60's it was impossible to ascend the mountain by road.In the old days the only way up was by mule or on foot, through Eski Kahta and Horik.Only last year was the motor road constructed that now takes one to within a few hundred meters of the summit. From afar the east peak gives the impression
of a sharp lead pencil as it rises to a height of 2100 meters, with an added artificial peak of 50 meters more. This peak is really a tumulus built above theNemrut treasure and tomb chamber. It is surrounded by
dressed stones, each the size of a man's head, and covered with
stones the size of a fist.
The area of the tumulus is 1150 sguare meters, and the height above sea level is 2150m.Under normal conditions July and August are the best monts the roads are closed by snow-covered.We suggest that visitors to climb Mt.Nimrud begin their journey at midnight from either
Adiyaman or Kahta. Thus they will be able to see an unrivalled picture of the dawn from the summit of the mountainçIn the early light they should be able to see an amazing panorama from the Taurus Mts, to Adıyaman,Malatya,Gazientep and Plain of Urfa and Diyarbakır the old Mesopotamia with the Euphrates winding along like a silver snake. The sacred buildings on Mt.Nımrud were constructed by the powerful King of Commagene,Antiochus I,in the first ceentury B.C.

PERGAMUM

The ancient city of Pergamum was founded in the eight century B.C, on a hill overlooking the Caicos River plain. We know more history, however, from the third century BC onward, when Lysimachus took over the western and central parts of Anatolia after Alexander's death.
The archaeological site in Pergamum includes three parts: the Asclepion, the Acropolis and
town itself.A visit to the first two will give you an overal view of the city and its ancient splendour during the Hellenistic golden age .The town, constructed primarily by the Romans, is remarkable for the vast size of its buildings.
